In 2010, a team of four US students from MIT and four Vietnamese students, spent three weeks of intensive field surveying of 165,141 sqm of sidewalk space, counting 6,490 people engaged in a variety of non-pedestrian activity and analyzing their spatial practices. We also interviewed 270 sidewalk vendors. This map shows one of our field sites, the historic colonial center of Ho Chi Minh City.
